Reflectors are the perfect lighting accessory for any studio but particularly small home studios. In this video, Gavin Hoey demonstrates why the 5-in-1 reflector has a permanent place in his studio.
Gavin starts by showing how a reflector can be used to fill shadows with light, and then goes on to do a shoot using just a single flash and a silver reflector. Once done, follow Gavin into Photoshop for some black and white portrait editing tips.

Home Studio Essentials Part 3 : Take and Make Great Photos with Gavin Hoey: Adorama Photography TV

If you only buy only one light modifier make it a softbox. Working in a small studio space makes controlling light and shadows that bit harder but as Gavin shows in this video, a softbox gives your light direction whilst remaining soft. 
With just one light Gavin sets up a retro studio shoot and then takes the RAW file into Photoshop CC where he makes a few simple tweaks to create a gorgeous vintage styled portrait.
